Hitomi and I have been working together for a couple of years now, so I’ve come to understand her features and her presence pretty well. At the same time, there are long gaps where we don’t see each other,and when we come back to it, something shifts. New things come out of that distance. In this case this experiment with all these different mediums I used.

This is a very recent drawing, and it also marks a transition for me into working with ink wash, which is something I’ve been wanting to explore more seriously. She’s been an ideal model for that process: patient, open, and willing to sit through the time it takes me to figure things out.
