With Kelina, working with a mirror was never just about the object. There's a doubled presence in this drawing - the figure we see and the figure she sees - and both are equally real. I'm drawn to that ambiguity: who is looking, and from where. The mirror doesn't flatter or explain. It simply records another angle of truth, one the subject herself may or may not have chosen to confront.
